Blogging is considered to be one of the most lucrative past-time of today. Blogger tab can now be placed side-by-side with Twitter and Facebook, or even your Yahoo Messenger. Since most of our daily tasks now involve the use of the internet, this can form part of our day-to-day activities, needless to say that it pays quite well enough in order for you to afford some comforts in life such as a few cups of coffee a week from Starbucks, or a monthly spa at a posh hotel, or even a designer bag at the end of the year. The thing is, writing is not as easy as people think it is. Ideas don’t flow like the river and having your reader count may rise just as much as your savings account interest. Here are a few tips to consider before starting your own blog.

1. Name your forte.

A common mistake of bloggers is to try to write about anything and almost everything in their blog site—be it about health, traveling, fashion, and technology. It is easier to keep the ideas flowing when you focus on a general topic (i. e. culture, fashion) and write about its subtopics. It is better if you write about something that you are personally interested about, instead of merely joining the bandwagon. The general topic of your blog will also help you determine how you will name your address and how you will design your page.

2. Stand out.

Always remember that there are a million and one blogs out there, talking about another million and one topics under the sun. How will you stand out? Create a signature in the way you write your entries so as to avoid getting copied. Try to create a positive image of yourself that when readers see your blog, they will see you in it.

Whom do you expect to read your blog– Children, parents of toddlers, single moms, fashionistas, or adolescents with raging hormones? Then focus on them. What do they want? Remember not to lose yourself in the process, though.

3. Commitment.

Foresee that blogging is not a “just for today” job. It is a continuous process of researching, learning, and experiencing. Consequently, it is an incessant process of writing and proofreading. So I suggest that unless writing is one of your favorite hobbies or past-times, you may want to reconsider your starting a blog. You need to invest time, energy, and sometimes, money to create something pleasant and wonderful.

4. Financial considerations.

How are you supposed to sustain your blog financially? Is it just going to be a hobby? Maybe you can subscribe to blogger for free. Are you going to employ some kinds of advertising in your page? Maybe you can look around for the best deals in town.

5. Consider your privacy.

Are you going to use a pen name or should you display your real name? Sure you wouldn’t want to worry about someone running after you with a dagger because you offended them in some ways, right? Of course one basic point in putting up a blog is to share wonderful things. Blogging is definitely not a place to put other people down. If you really can’t control it, maybe you should use a pen name to voice out your opinions.

Have you established credibility in your “area of expertise”? You may want to display your name so that people will know the entries are from a credible source. Just bear in mind that once you publish your name, you are also placing yourself under the public’s criticism, so be careful.

Blogging is one of the many good things you can do over the net. To the people who really love to write, this may even serve as an outlet of creativity, and help them relieve stress. But if it’s all about making money, this may not be a sustainable reason for you to create a blog. So think hard and remember that good things come to those who wait.
