Where are my CommentsWe are bloggers and writing is what we do. We write our post proof read them and publish then finally we do promotion so that they get the best exposure. Where are my comments? This is a question I found a lot in my spam folder. Comments are something blogger is happy to see this proves that there are social interaction with our blogs. The reason for this post is to answer that frequently ask question I receive from a few commenter of late, well the simple answer is I deleted them. Why? simple they have no bearing on the post nor even blog on a whole just imagine you spent your time writing about Networking or link Building and get a few of these that I will now share some with you.

Here are a few of them

(1) – Thanks for sharing the link, but unfortunately it seems to be offline… Does anybody have a mirror or another source? Please reply to my post if you do!

(2) – Hi. I just noticed that your blog looks like it has a few code problems at the very bottom of your website’s page. I’m not sure if everybody is getting this same error when browsing your blog? I am employing a totally different browser than most people, referred to as Opera, so that is what might be causing it? I just wanted to make sure you know. Thanks for posting some great postings and I’ll try to return back with a completely different browser to check things out!

(3) – Exceptional, I passed this on to a friend of mine, and he actually bought me lunch because I found this for him, so let me rephrase: Thanks for lunch.

At some point as bloggers you must have come across some of these weird comments and starting to think hell no not again. Tough isn’t it? We have to deal with it can’t let them get you de-motivated, you know the reason why you blog and spammers love blogs. Here are three reasons why I delete your comments.

Irrelevant – Everyday I receive them comment that has no bearing what so ever on the topic of discussion I spent all my productive time writing for readers not spammers. While I welcome comments from all blogs of life of any niche I don’t appreciate irrelevant comments.

Website Name – Bet you never thought this would be a factor well it is. The popular trend now is that either the website name is left optional or it is Google yeah right I am stupid enough to believe that Google has left me a comment on my blog. Think again I am a blogger not an idiot.

Spamming – Third reason why I remove your comment from my blog is because I found your comment to be spam and you are promoting Porn nothing is wrong if you choose to promote porn but, unfortunate for you I don’t write any topic about porn so your comment should not promote it on my site. Where are my comments? I bin them I love comments but they must be relevant and offer something to my readers not foolish comments.

As bloggers like me do you get these types of comments and how do you handle them I really like to have your thoughts on this topic. Where are your comments? Where it should be in the trash can. Your question answered.

  1. haha, I remember the first time I read comments like the ones above, I really don’t think they are spam comments and had to check my site a few times. I banned those IPs since then and the situation is much better now. 🙂

    1. Thanks Tuan welcome aboard i do hope you find the post here useful and and i guess the best option now is to revert to ip blocking Thanks for your input

  2. Hi lawmacs:

Here is one of your comment. Add all other comment you have all the comments you need.

You need almost 10 comments on every posts and you are doing okay. For the rest of the traffic go to
book -marking simple and easiest thing.

Read my blog post 20 effective blog traffic Free strategies.

Blog comments is only one way to create traffic. Do not depend on other people. Depend on your self, it is your blog and you are passionate about it.

DO it slowly step by step and get what you want.

    I try to the same.

Yo have an awesome day, I am with you to comment every time you have a new post

    Fran Aslam

    1. Thanks Fran will have a look at the article and i appreciate your warm words and helpful contribution here you too have a brilliant week ahead

    1. Thanks Shabnam the spammers are really amazing sometimes i think why don’t they post good comments and get the link that would be a win win situation for every one.

  3. You know my stand point on this very well as I wrote about the same issue a few weeks ago. These types of comments belong to one place only, the trash.

I delete every generic comment that doesn’t reflect on the post or the blog in general, and I also receive questions why was my comment deleted! Well, if a person has the time to ask then he can read the post and comment with something useful and relevant.

Cheers to all the bloggers who are making a difference and providing useful comments throughout the network

    1. I Remember that post i too wrote two post earlier about spam but they seems to be getting worst it is happaning hourly as you delete then they post again i am trying the Wp Hashcash Plugin to see if i can eleminate them or at least to a minimal.

  4. haha

I must say I do admire some of the ingenuity the spammers use to try and get their posts up. The secret is with these generic posts only make it through on 1% of the blogs they try it on, but they might try it on 10000 blogs with automation.

Even with them making it on 100 blogs though, I do not know if google really gives it any weight, though, since their content would be exactly the same

    1. That is true steve i don’t believe it either but if they would take the time to write good comments then they would fair better Thanks for your continued support here.

  5. Very well written. Nothing at all to disagree here. No nonsense please. If you have anything useful or valuable to add then please do or please leave this page immediately. This is my request to spammers and to all those who feel like putting nonsense stuff in their comments.
As often and as ever, I will say again. Please make sensible comments or say, relevant comments. Do not just comment for the comments sake. Read it, think and then write your thoughts related to the same. If you cannot then please avoid.
I too get such irrelevant comments at times. Nothing much I can do except deleting them all. Link spamming through comments is also getting very common these days. It is acceptable to some extent if its related and if not then simply delete.

    1. Well said Aswani there is nothing much we can do except delete them or add captcha to our blog commenting system but that is just putting extra work for our genuine commentor Thanks for your kind words

  6. Hehe, isn’t the first time I read comments like this. Usually, I delete generic comments that isn’t related to my post. But I must to say that some spam comment are very original.

    1. Thats true some are very original and very sophisticated in their approach they tends to seems as if they are with the topic but from a diffrenet angle deleting them is our only option at the moment.

  7. I think the types comments you are referring to are usually comments which are done for the purpose to build links and generally they are done automated way.

    1. Yes i realize that however askimet isn’t blocking automated spam so i am testing a new plugin and it seems to be working fine thanks for your comment

  8. Hi Gary,

Seems like the spammers are getting more creative by the day. You would not believe some of the comments I’ve been seeing lately. Some even go to the trouble of preparing a 4 or 5 paragraph comment but the problem is, it has absolutely nothing relating to the article. 🙂

I’ve also noticed that my spammy comments are on the rise. I used to see a few each day and now it can be as many as a few dozen. Don’t these people have any better to do? As someone else stated, they can be quite amusing at times.

For now, all we can do is continue to delete those comments and realize it’s all part of the blogging experience.

    1. That is the real problem the comments has absolutely nothing to do with the article i had some comments that are consist of more words that the article itself i think spammers are brainless

  9. i get tons of it, and i think they’re weirder like “I’ll ask virgil about this stuff” and “why did you delete my comment?” (strange spamming style). But the sad thing is that there are some decent comments that gets into the spam folder, seeing as they have been marked as spam by Akismet, including my old email and I think this one as well on some akismet powered blogs. And they have to improve their support about this, since I’ve been sending email requests to them last month and still got no answer from it.

    1. As with Askimet they only put the spam comment in a folder and as you rightly said some geniune commenters get mark as spammers i am testing the growmap plugin and at the moment it works like a charm i am spam free for two days now.

  10. your are certainly right, for spammers, all they are after is to put as many link as they can, they don’t give a damn to the author or to the main topic of the blog…I really enjoy reading your different examples of irrelevant comments..they’re really funny..what would the lunch will do with networking??…lol…

  11. I don’t know why they ever think they’ll get through to being a live comment. My current favourite is “this post has really helped me with my college/university/school project”.

I am greatful that indirectly my blog is educating the world’s youth!

    Great idea for a post.

  12. Ha ha! Very Hilarious, Gary!

I’ve seen you around, networking, but this is the first time I am actually visiting your site. I must say I had a very good laugh at the way you wrote the post.

You are right, Akismet (it’s not Askimet) marks some genuine comments also as spam. Just yesterday I fished out one nice comment.

I see that one of your concerns was that Akismet doesn’t delete the spam, but rather saves it in a folder. Well, I think it deletes the comments from that folder after 30 days from the date it catches them. That is good in a way, because it gives a chance to release any comments that were actually genuine.

You said you were trying out the growmap plugin. I hope it doesn’t just delete the perceived “spam” comments without giving you a chance to review them, because if that’s the case, you never know what you might be losing in terms of what could have been valuable comments. What do you think?

    I’ll see you around then…

    Cheers,
    Mark

  13. Btw, your comments section is not able to handle “blank lines” that someone includes for spacing between paragraphs. My above comment had 6 of them and they’ve been cut out. You might want to have a look at it, because it could make neatly formatted comments appear not as neat as they were intended to be 🙂

  14. I don’t really waste my time reading them. In anger, I hit the empty spam button and move on to better things.

P.S: Thanks for using Growmap’s plugin. Akismet recently added to their stupid blacklist and now I’ve lost the zeal to comment as most of my comments end up in spam folders on blogs where the blogger is “too busy” to check his spam.

  15. haha…You are right…about 90% of blogs comments are spam..in order to create backlinks…we have to be very selective to choose on which comments are genuine..
