Learn about selling products

August 16, 2012 Posted by Gary News 11 Comments

Selling a product can be complicated, especially if you don’t know how to go about it. There are many sales training courses available on the market that cover all the facets of making a successful sale, regardless of the type of product or service your business has in store. One can get the proper education needed by enrolling in such a course at any given point of time, no matter what designation you are already working at. There are a host of different reputable training companies and institutes that offer full time, part time, correspondence, and even online courses that you can do from the comforts of your home. The thing about many of the institutes working in this field is that they realize the kind of audience they are targeting, namely fresh graduates and working professionals, and thus they have flexible programs that are suitable for all who are interested in acquiring knowledge or upgrading their know-how about sales.

The basics of sales are as follows.

It is imperative to show enthusiasm for the product or service you are offering. This means that you have to love what you are doing when you are selling the product. A good salesperson is one who loves his job and believes in the product and the value it will endow on the consumer. He understands the customer and his needs, and has communication and body language to support it. To be a good salesperson, one must have comprehensive knowledge about the product he is selling. This knowledge comes in handy when the customer asks questions about the product range or company profile. Simply blabbering out everything you know is seldom helpful. Your goal should be to aid the customer to see the perks and value of the product by highlighting the product’s best features and benefits. Also, make sure that the product is sufficiently been explained to the customer, even the drawbacks. If your product is good, rest assured that the customer will see the benefits and value provided.

At the end of the day, you are the seller, and hence it is crucial to connect with the buyer. To do this you must first understand where the buyer is coming from. Pay attention to the motivations of the buyer. You can judge this by carefully listening to what he has to say and from the questions he asks. For example, if a particular feature of the product is specifically asked for and your product has it, it may be important to highlight it for the buyer. Most customers respond to honesty, so make sure you are telling the truth at all times. Every product has drawbacks, lying about them will rarely get you customer loyalty or successful sales. Sometimes it is helpful to take some time to look at the marketing side of the product too, as after all this is how the customer has heard of the product. Knowing how the product is marketed may tell you what you must showcase in your presentation. Remember that the support functions of selling are advertising, merchandising and marketing, so you must have adequate knowledge of all parts of the business.

While closing the sale is a vital part of sales training Dubai and selling a product, you must be prepared to hear a negative response. In many cases the customer asks for some time to consider his options and make the decision. In such cases it may be better to back off a bit and leave the next move in the hands of the buyer, rather than appear pushy and lose your chances completely. If your have been helpful, pleasant, honest about the product and shown value, chances are that you will make the sale.

Instead of selling a product, you should focus on selling the idea. Outline the advantages of the product, stressing on the disadvantages, if you don’t own it.

I think with sales, knowing the product deeply and finding a place in your heart for it is key. When these two components are in place, once you get that listening ear, you can really fill it with the right stuff, and that listening ear could turn into a sale. I think boldness is essential and you have to be able to take some rejection and keep plowing through. I think that’s where a lot of people get distracted and give up. Once you press through a few sales, you will start to find the rhythm that works for you. There are different sales methods out there that are effective, but you have to find one that works with your personality type, I think.
