This is a thought provoking question and can also been seen as a controversial one not been discriminating here. There many different languages they are spoken around the world and as bloggers we write for theses nations. You might disagree with me but when we write our published articles go global and are seen by many different countries around the globe that speak different languages. What can you do about this not much we can add plug-in to our blogs so that others can translate in their language of choice. Now this brings me to the question what language your blog speak?

One of the task I face as a blogger is that sometimes when readers comes to my website and leave a comment their website are often written in a different language from mines sometimes even Chinese or Japanese. How do you as a blogger handle this? Do you keep these comments not sure what type of website you are linking to from your blog? Or do you delete them? When I write a blog post and publish it I am always hoping to have readers leaving their comment and in turn this commenter is expecting to have a link back to their website.

My blog is written in English as with many other blogs I know and visit but there is lots of time that visitor who visits my blog and leaves a comment and their blog is written in languages other than English. How do you handle these comments do you delete them? Tough decision but there is one important factor to bear in mind and that is every visitor should be seen as an asset after all traffic is the life blood of your blog, forget about Content here for a moment. We all know that bloggers comment just for the sake of getting links back to their website but apart from those there are genuine supporters who will comment because they are your supporters or the article is of interest to them.

Whenever there is a comment been held for moderation I always try my best to see where that links run to because I am sure no one wants to see that they are linking to some website that maybe promoting violence or have some malicious content. To avoid all the confusion i would strongly recommend you translate all website that you link to from your comments before you approve those comments. I leave you with this question. Do you keep those comments that are of different language from your blog or do you delete them? Share your thoughts feel free to share your opinion.

  1. Interesting! There is absolutely no doubt with the fact that most of us are blogging in the same language, English. I cannot even remember a single comment on my blog which was written in a language other than English. Maybe, I don’t remember it exactly but if I do get any such comment, I will surely follow your advice. And as far as approval of comments is concerned, I do approve most of my comments. As long as comments make sense, I have absolutely no issues in approving it.

    1. That is true Aswani blogging in english is more popular but my main concern is when the comment is left in english but the site that you are linking back to is in another language other than english.

  2. I do agree that English is not native language of many bloggers and yes i have got some comments on my blog which are in other language but are rare.

I do check the link and if it is related to my blog niche.

If the comments are genuine there should be no problem in publishing them.

Definitely a thought provoking post 🙂

    1. Thanks for you comment Shabnam you are right as long as the comment is seen as genuine we should publish them the big question is when the site is not in english we check them but do we go through must of the site? food for thought.

  3. english is not my native language, but my comments are always written in English. Even if my blog was not in english, again my comments to english written blogs would be in english. And to answer your question: of course I would delete any comment which was in an unknown language or I would translate it if it was in my language. I believe in clarity when it comes to communication

    1. Hi Steven Welcome and thanks for taking the time to add your voice to the debate. The area for me is not about the comment itself but the site that we link back to do we always check to see that the site is not promoting anything that we don’t want to be associate with? There is nothing wrong with linking to a non-english website. What is important is the content of the site.

  4. I write English too as like most of blog, but I add a software to translate my content of blog in some languages. It can increase more visitors.

    1. That is a good way to go i do too add a plugin to help readers tranaslate this always a great idea as all of us does not speak the same language. Blogging is about sharing and not because we don’t all speak the same language we still can communicate with each other.

  5. Hi Gary,
English is the most widely used medium when it comes to writing online or blogging. It may not be my native language, but I do write my blog posts in English. I haven’t encountered comments on my posts having other foreign languages, but if ever I will encounter one, I’d surely follow your advice.

  19. There is no reason to leave comments in other language to the blog in my opinion. You can be sure what it says and taking time to check it with translator is a waste of time for that one comment. I just delete them and never check the links.

  22. Deciding whether to ignore/delete or publish a comment in your blog written in foreign language is a tough decision. Because there are people who are sincere with their comments they just can’t freely express their thoughts in english. Thus, we have to consider their comments and check whether it is relevant to your post. We might hurt people who appreciated our blogs by automatically deleting them.

  23. An impressive share, I just given this onto a colleague who was doing a little analysis on this. And he in fact bought me breakfast because I found it for him.. smile. So let me reword that: Thnx for the treat! But yeah Thnkx for spending the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and love reading more on this topic. If possible, as you become expertise, would you mind updating your blog with more details? It is highly helpful for me. Big thumb up for this blog post!

  24. Gracias por comentar Shabnam tienes razón, siempre y cuando el comentario se ve como una verdadera debemos publicar la

gran pregunta es si el sitio no está en Inglés que les visita, pero no vamos a través de mosto de la web? alimento para el

    pensamiento.

  25. I usually always delete comments from a different language, because most of the time the comment usually isn’t relevant to the article.

  26. My native language is not English. But here on Internet, I do everything in English. I comment in English and treat non-English comments as spam. I get angry when someone comments in a different language on my YouTube video. I write all my blogs in English, ignoring the fact that this blog will suit only the people of my region. It doesn’t matter to me. English is an international language, so it deserves to be used in places that are visited all around the globe.
